Can you fit 26" wheels on a bike that has 24" wheels on it?

I can get a bike for free but I am pretty sure that it is only a 24" and I stand at 6'3" so I am pretty sure I need a 26" wheel, any ideas, if i can fit a 26" wheel on there what kind of modifications do I need to make to the bike...
