Herpes simplex 1 virus or HSV-1 is the one which is typically responsible for cold sores although the herpes simplex 2 virus or HSV-2 has also been known to cause cold sores. As an aside HSV-2 is the virus responsible for a majority of genital herpes infections. Just what are cold sores and what herpes simplex 1 treatment therapies are available?
